DHL Supply Chain Thailand becomes first company in Asia Pacific to achieve GFA Label Leaf 4 certification

Bangkok – DHL’s continuous efforts in Thailand to lower its carbon footprint, boost fuel consumption efficiency and make use of greener integrated innovations as part of a worldwide mission to reduce logistics-related emissions to zero by 2050 have been recognized by regional industry body Green Freight Asia (GFA), which has awarded DHL Supply Chain Thailand with its highest certification, the Label Leaf 4. This makes DHL Supply Chain, the global market leader for contract logistics solutions, the first company in Asia Pacific to achieve this certification.

At the handover ceremony, James Macleerie, Head of Transport Thailand Cluster, DHL Supply Chain Thailand said, “DHL Supply Chain Thailand is proud to be working in partnership with GFA. It’s an honor to be the first company in Asia Pacific to receive this prestigious certification. After attaining the Leaf 2 and Leaf 3 certifications in 2015 and 2017 respectively, this is further affirmation that we are making a difference to our environment, and that we are on the right track on our journey to have zero emissions by 2050.”

The greening of DHL practices comes as the company continues to streamline its transport operations and further improve efficiency, displaying the symbiosis of environmentally-friendly tech and efficient business practices. One demonstration of this is how DHL optimizes its fleet management efficiency with its Transport Management Center (TMC), a command center which tracks the movements of the DHL fleet 24/7. Coupled with the implementation of telematics, the TMC has the ability to optimize routes and address inefficiencies.

As result, the number of kilometers driven and incidents of vehicles idling are falling, along with fuel and maintenance costs – there has been a 12% savings on fuel usage to date in 2018. DHL’s carbon footprint has also fallen by 9%, a drop that is far ahead of the Asian norm in fuel efficiency.

Sustainable, innovative and environmentally-friendly solutions are an integral part of the DHL corporate culture. With a fleet of over 4,000 trucks in the country, DHL Supply Chain Thailand is doing more to help the environment by driving the greening of the logistics industry.

With the pace of climate change continuing and in the spirit of cooperation, transportation companies formed GFA to improve fuel usage, reduce carbon emissions and lower overall transport costs. The GFA label comprises four distinct tiers of recognition. A company that attains one leaf has demonstrated a minimum commitment to adopting green freight practices. A company that attains four leaves has demonstrated itself as a true sustainability leader, with an outstanding commitment.
