It’s All About the Ladies on Day 3 of The King’s Cup
After an unprecedented Friday morning downpour of rain causing the day’s matches to be called off, the crowds came out in their droves on three of the 16th King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tourna-ment. The day started in much brighter (and dryer) spirits with a tense penalty shootout to ac-commodate for the previous day of missed play allowing all the teams to practice their shooting and get familiar with the pitch.
The penalty shootouts produced exciting play and surprising results with the following teams, Pelago, Johnnie Walker Blue Label, last year’s finalists King Power & Mekong, the New Zealand All Blacks rugby legends consisting of Charles Riechelmann, Olo Brown, Robin Brooke and Ste-ve Mcdowall and in keeping with the Ladies Day theme the all-female team Casillero Del Diablo triumphed.
However, Saturday is always really about the ladies and this year was no exception as the glam-ourous crowds featuring celebrities, socialites and many well-heeled Bangkok residents turned out in style for ‘Ladies Day’, also known as Bangkok’s Ascot. This year was no exception with the best dressed ladies joining a sensational masquerade themed ball show on the pitch before the best dressed of the day winning an all-expenses paid 4-night trip to Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar in Oman with flights sponsored by Oman Air. The finals will be played on Sunday.
The King’s Cup gala auction dinner raised THB 3 million that will be donated to a number of pro-jects that better the lives of both wild and domesticated elephants throughout Thailand.
