ประเทศไทย 8 กันยายน 2559 – โซนี่ อินเตอร์แอคทีฟ เอนเตอร์เทนเมนต์ ฮ่องกง จำกัด (สาขาสิงคโปร์) (หรือ SIES) เปิดตัว PlayStation®4 (PS4™) รุ่นใหม่ที่บางและเบากว่าเดิม พร้อมฮาร์ดดิสก์ความจุ 500GB เริ่มวางขายในประเทศไทยวันที่ 1 ตุลาคม 2559 ในราคาขายปลีกที่ 12,990 บาท*1
การปรับปรุงระบบสถาปัตยกรรมภายในของ PS4 รุ่นใหม่นี้ ทำให้สามารถลดขนาดของตัวเครื่องลง 30% เมื่อเทียบกับรุ่นก่อนหน้า น้ำหนักของตัวเครื่องลดลง 25% เมื่อเทียบกับรุ่นแรก (รุ่น CUH-1000) และลดลง 16% เมื่อเทียบกับรุ่นปัจจุบัน (รุ่น CUH-1200) นอกจากนี้ระบบของ PS4 รุ่นใหม่นี้ยังมีประสิทธิภาพมากขึ้น เช่นกินไฟน้อยลงกว่าเดิม 34% และ 28% เมื่อเทียบกับรุ่นแรกและรุ่นปัจจุบันตามลำดับ
รูปโฉมของรุ่นใหม่นี้ยังคงการออกแบบของรุ่นก่อนหน้า ที่ด้านหน้าและด้านหลังมีความโค้งมน ตัดมุมทุกด้านแบบโค้งมน ทำให้รู้สึกถึงความอ่อนโยนที่เตะตาคนส่วนใหญ่ รูปลักษณ์ที่ดูเรียบง่าย พร้อมสัญลักษณ์ PS ที่ออกแบบให้อยู่ตรงกลางด้านหน้าสีมันวาว ทำให้ PS4 slimmer อยู่ที่ใดก็สะดุดตา
นอกจากนี้ PS4 ทุกรุ่นรวมถึงรุ่นสลิมเมอร์ และรุ่น PlayStation®4 Pro จะรองรับเทคโนโลยีระบบภาพแบบ HDR (High Dynamic Range) ซึ่งจะช่วยให้เมื่อมีการปรับภาพให้สว่างและมืด เรายังคงรู้สึกได้ถึงความกว้างของแถบสี สำหรับคนที่ใช้ทีวีแบบ HDR จะสามารถเพลิดเพลินไปกับเกมและเนื้อหาสาระความบันเทิงที่มีความสมจริงมากขึ้น ประทับใจมากยิ่งขึ้นกับสิ่งที่ตาของคุณจะเห็นเหมือนกับโลกแห่งความจริง
